Campus Orchestra

Campus Orchestra is a non-auditioned ensemble for freshman string musicians designed to introduce students to the skills necessary to function in a high school ensemble.

 

Students will prepare grade-appropriate musical literature for concert performance while applying independent skills in planning both technical execution and artistic decision-making.

 

To demonstrate knowledge and proficiency, students will complete a mixture of written and performed assessments throughout the year.

​

Students perform in 3–4 concerts over the course of the year as well as MSBOA Festival.​

​

Additional optional activities include Solo & Ensemble, Pit Orchestra for the school musical, as well as Chamber Orchestra.

Philharmonic Orchestra

Philharmonic Orchestra is a non-auditioned ensemble for students in Grades 10 through 12.

​

This course builds upon the skills established in Campus Orchestra and applies them to a higher difficulty level of musical literature, while also expanding opportunities for peer leadership.

 

Students will continue to be held to the expectations for individual written and performed assessments and public concert performances.

 

Students perform in 3–4 concerts over the school year as well as MSBOA Festival.

Additional optional activities include Solo & Ensemble, Pit Orchestra for the school musical, and Chamber Orchestra.

Symphony Orchestra

Symphony Orchestra is an auditioned ensemble for students

who wish to develop and apply their artistic and academic skills at a college preparatory level.

​

Students will study a body of literature including unabridged professional masterworks, and are responsible for their own individual preparation for

ensemble rehearsal.

 

Symphony Orchestra meets regularly outside of school hours with a wind section to complete a full symphonic orchestra, expanding the repertory of available music.

​

Public performances, festivals, and a wide variety of concerts are emphasized. The highest of performance quality and standards are expected. 

 

Students from this ensemble are expected to participate in Solo & Ensemble Festival.

 

Additional optional activities may include Pit Orchestra as well as Chamber Orchestra.

Full Symphonic Orchestra ("FLORK")

This ensemble comprises members of the Symphony Orchestra and members of the wind sections of the Symphony Band. Mandatory rehearsals are held every Thursday afternoon beginning in November. It is considered a 9th hour course.

Chamber Orchestra

Chamber Music is a course for small student groups, structured flexibly to the size of the roster and the needs of the students enrolled.

 

Students will develop and exercise skills in chamber music, which is prepared

collaboratively between members and performed without a conductor. At the beginning of each semester, students will propose a project to define their course of study for that semester.

 

Students from this course can serve as ensembles-for-hire at BHHS functions.

​

The Chamber Orchestra's repertoire ranges from light classical to more popular genres. This group also rehearses and often performs as a Chamber Ensemble at the MSBOA Solo & Ensemble Festival and will often accompany soloists at the Senior Concerto Concert at the end of each school year.

 

Rehearsals are outside of the regular school day. In order to participate, students must also be members of a BHHS curricular music ensemble.

Pit Orchestra

The Pit Orchestra performs as the accompaniment to the cast of the Fall Musical, usually in November. 

​

This ensemble is extra-curricular (community service hours) open to students 9th-12th grade. Rehearsals are outside of the regular school day and those who audition must commit to all rehearsals and performances. In order to participate, students must also be members of a BHHS curricular music ensemble.
