Kendra Peterson is currently in her 14th year teaching in Bloomfield Hills Schools and 19th year of teaching overall. Previously she taught for a year in Morenci, Michigan and four years in Riverside, California, before moving back to work in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Ms. Peterson taught 4th and 5th grade band and general music for 4 years in multiple BHS schools. In 2014, she moved to Bloomfield Hills Middle School to teach 5-8th grade band and general music. As of 2023, she is the director at the new South Hills Middle School, Lone Pine and Conant Elementary Schools. She also serves as the Assistant Marching Band Director for Bloomfield Hills High School.
Ms. Peterson received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Western Michigan University in 2005 and a Masters of Music from the American Band College at Sam Houston State University in 2012. Her master's project "8 Weeks to a Better Beginning Percussionist" was published in Bandworld Magazine. Over many years as a performer Ms. Peterson has played principal flute with the Moreno Valley Wind Symphony, Corona Community Band, Western Michigan University Symphony Orchestra, WMU Symphonic Band, WMU Flute Choir and various musicals. Ms. Peterson currently performs on flute and piccolo with the Southeastern Michigan Wind Ensemble and Ferndale Community Concert Band.
Ms. Peterson enjoys volunteering in and outside of school. She currently serves as the BHS 5-12 Performing Arts Department Head, BHEA Union Building Representative, Treasurer of the Southeastern Michigan Wind Ensemble, and is a BHS Ed Tech Pioneer. She has previously served as Co-Treasurer of District IV Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association for 6 years.
In her spare time, Ms. Peterson enjoys playing with her two dogs Runty and Sydney, volunteering with local Help Us, Help Them dog rescue, reading, exploring Michigan and being outside. She is also the co-host of "Our Invisible Life" podcast, focused on living with chronic illness.
